Weekly Selections… Recent Purchases Part I

Here are some of the recent purchases I’ve been loving lately. This is a mix of wear now summer pieces, as well as some off-season finds.

Aqauzzura Powder Puff Slingbacks in Velvet Antique Rose Pink

I generally gravitate towards classic heels but I have always loved the Aquazzura Powder Puff slingbacks in velvet Antique Rose. When I finally came across a never worn pair in my size on eBay, I purchased them immediately.

This style is discontinued, but keep your eyes peeled on pre-loved sites, Yoox, and Aquazzura outlets, you may get lucky! If you prefer to purchase new, the updated version of this style is the Boudior 105 Pumps, but I still prefer the OG.

I’ve found more pink velvet Powder Puffs in various sizes on pre-loved sites.

Premium High Street Finds

I generally avoid “premium high street” brands. Some items are great, but many are not worth the price. That said, I must give credit to these dresses and shorts.

The Ember shorts in pink by Reiss are nice and thick, don’t wrinkle too much, and fit well. The pink knit dress was a bit of an impulse purchase (it’s on sale) but it’s turned out to be a useful daytime dress. I’ve received loads of compliments and so far it’s held up great. I sized up one size as I thought a pink dress with makeup illustrations on the buttons would be a bit much in a more fitted silhouette. I’ve worn both with my light pink summer charms flats.

This green and white paisley belted shirt dress by Misa is lightweight, versatile and perfectly matches my lime green Mark Cross Grace bag. The only part I don’t love is puffy sleeves. I’m going to ask my seamstress if she can alter them. I should also mention, if you’re on the shorter side you’ll probably need to shorten this dress, it’s generously sized.

Manolo Blahnik Maysli Slingbacks in Suede Olive Green

I know the Maysale mule gets all the love on social media, but I prefer the Maysli slingback. I have a pair of tartan Maysale mules (technically called the Maysalebi) I love to wear around the holidays, but I’m pretty immobile in them… it is sort of half a shoe.

I recently bought these olive green Maysli slingbacks and am over the moon. That said, the olive Maysale is currently on sale for a great price (love these in lime green on VC as well). I love the Hangisi, of course, but the Maysale and its variations are great if you need a quietly elegant shoe to compliment your outfit.

The Perfect White Jeans

Finding white jeans is always a challenge. For me, Mother Denim’s Mid Rise Ankle Dazzler in “Fairest of Them All” is the perfect skinny jean with a slight kick flare that falls about 1″ above the ankle (the most flattering length, IMO). I was so excited when I found this cut that I also ordered a dark denim version from Net-a-Porter, but found these, unfortunately, came up a bit short on me despite being the same size and cut.

I’m still on the hunt for the perfect pair of white jeans with a skinnier ankle. Please share you favourites!

Vivaia Manon Flats

I never thought I would be advocating machine washable shoes, but anything is possible, I suppose.

I like to walk but the perpetual on-again-off-again rain in London is not great for delicate footwear. I was intrigued by the idea of machine washable shoes but could never find an appealing style, until I came across the Manon flats by Vivaia. I like the classic pointed toe ballerina shape and the contrast stripe detail is cute. With the right outfit, I think they’ll look sweet.

I plan on wearing these on days when it’s somewhat warm but still a bit wet or there’s intermittent rain (this sporadic weather, unfortunately, happens, all too often). Will report back on how they hold up over time. I went for the pink Ash Rose colour, but I also love the Mint Green!
